Graded 30 Good 2 by SGC with confirmed provenance from the legendary Frank Nagy collection. The "Christian Gentleman" commands the offered 1910 Williams Caramel E103 Christy Mathewson example with a comely comb over and visual appeal difficult to match. This scarce representation is one of five Mathewson specimens at the grading tier with only two better. The tasty caramel treat was released by the Oxford, Pennsylvania confectioner on a very limited regional basis--and as such, is a coveted portrayal of the Hall of Famer. This century-old cardboard appears to have been harshly graded, as this "Matty" is free of surface creasing or imperfections on the blank reverse. Even corner rounding and askew centering relegates the card to its technical assessment. The crisp illustration is prominently set against a pomegranate red backdrop. This Bucknell alumnus is essential for the discerning pre-war collector.
