Presented is perhaps the most unusual 1933 Goudey complete set of (240) cards. Not only does this full edition with (65) Hall of Famers include the near-impossible #106 Lajoie shortprint, each card has also been trimmed to the colored borders by an over zealous previous owner. For purposes of authentication, seven cards are graded “Authentic” by SGC. Those include #53 Ruth (minor paper loss), #92 Gehrig, #106 Lajoie (moderate creasing), #144 Ruth (creasing), #149 Ruth (creasing), #160 Gehrig (creasing) and #181 Ruth. Outside of the meticulous trimming, approximately 50% of the cards reveal varying degrees of creasing, incidental soiling along with sixteen instances of surface paper loss or writing. Only #2 Vance, #222 Gehringer and #223 Dean have sustained back damage among the ungraded key cards. Outside of the 1909-11 T206 White Borders set, the 1933 Goudey series is perhaps the most widely collected pre-war set in hobby history. While unaltered complete editions with the coveted Lajoie have fetched upwards of six figures, this lower tier offering is still a “once in a lifetime” opportunity for the pre-war set collector. One of only a few 240-card editions known to exist.
