Primed for yet another Super Bowl title, Joe Montana and his San Francisco 49ers almost got more than they bargained for in the Cincinnati Bengals. Montana was clutch under pressure, as he engineered the game-winning 92-yard touchdown drive with less than three minutes on the clock. Since the 1989 Super Bowl was the first to be played in Miami in over 10 years, the city wanted to roll out the big guns, so they commissioned native Miamian and contemporary artist Elliot Arkin (d.2007) to produce 23 bronze statues. Arkin, known for his creative, yet humorous, approach to modern art, has scaled two players flying into action. This limited edition (#2/23) sculpture rests atop an 8x6 stone platform that has “XXIII MIAMI” etched into both the front and back (noticeable chipping on the stone base). Measuring 24” tall (base + statue) and weighing 45lbs, this bronze model displays the characteristics and ingenious approach of its creator. A wonderful patina further enhances this visual masterpiece. Both beautiful craftsmanship and artist talent are apparent in this true rarity that draws attention from both the art collector and sports enthusiast. Due to weight/size, a shipping surcharge will apply.
